Dalam bahasa teknis, panel distribusi, yang umum disebut PHB (Peralatan Hubung Bagi), pada dasarnya berfungsi untuk mendistribusikan beban listrik ke panel berkapasitas lebih kecil. Ada dua jenis Peralatan Hubung Bagi (PHB), yaitu Panel Tegangan Menengah (PTM), juga dikenal sebagai MVMDB (Medium Voltage Main Distribution Board), dan untuk tegangan rendah, disebut LVMDB. (Papan Distribusi Utama Tegangan Rendah). LVMDP (Low Voltage Main Distribution Panel) adalah panel yang beroperasi pada tegangan rendah dan berfungsi sebagai titik distribusi utama untuk penyaluran daya ke seluruh gedung dan sekitarnya.
Panel MDP (dari Main Distribution Panel) terdiri dari garis pembagi dengan MCCB, yang menyuplai daya ke panel hilir. Pasokannya berasal dari panel LVMDP. Secara substansial, panel distribusi adalah peralatan listrik yang terdiri dari unit panel koneksi daya dalam sistem distribusi tegangan listrik.
